After obtaining his medical degree from Temple University, he completed a general surgery residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. As a chief resident, he distinguished himself by receiving all three teaching awards from the University and a commendation from the Department of Veteran Affairs for outstanding service at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. Dr. Long was trained by the world-renowned faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the latest techniques of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, and returned to Philadelphia to join MCP-Hahnemann University as an Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery. He has won an award for research in cosmetic surgery and has published journal articles and book chapters on a wide variety of topics, including a recent book devoted to wound healing for which he was co-editor.
